Argue for or against the use of cell phones in two paragraphs, using a different pattern of organization or rhetorical device in each. Be sure to head each paragraph with a label that identifies which pattern or device you are employing to argue your point. Some paragraphs may contain more than one device, such as the sample provided below, but you still need to compose two separate paragraphs. While you do not have to refer to either of the articles we have read so far in this assignment, you may wish to try your hand at paraphrasing and quoting. Just be sure to properly cite any textual references according to MLA format! (Due 9/20)
(Example & Narration)
Cell phones are the most convenient invention ever and I’m sure many would agree. For example, they make parents less worried because their children can get in contact with them right away. I remember that when I first started high school I didn’t have a cell phone. My parents knew I got out of school at 3 pm, which I did, but this one day I was delayed because I had to buy a new MetroCard. After some time when by and my parents didn’t find me home they began to worry. My dad drove all over looking for me, but he couldn't find me. When I finally got home I called his cell to find out where he was and he was so happy to hear from me. Still, if I had a cell phone then I could have called my parents to let them know where I was, what I was doing, and why I was going to be late coming home.
Example and illustration
ReplyDeleteMany would argue that cell phones disturb the peace of public space by their tormenting ring tone, or the loud speaking on the phone, and the new technologies must be brought in to our lives to restore the peace. But with a simple virtue such as etiquette still found in some cultures can fix the problem easily. Coming from Japan, a country can virtually be described as a polite nation. I never thought something we do as habits would prompt the curiosity of the people here in America. If a person receives a call during a meeting, or during a gathering of friends, he or she would probably stand up, and go to a corner in the room, or even get out of the room in haste excusing one’s self. Even when speaking on the phone, I grew up seeing my mother covering her mouth and the cellphone with her hands to prevent background noise disturbing the conversation, and also to prevent the conversation be heard by the passerby. It maybe distinct habit coming from a culture where nobody comment, laugh, or even clap in the movie theatre, but still there is something to be learned from those gestures. If this etiquette we could spread in America, we would not need new technologies to silence the phones. People are capable of keeping the peace in public space with a little bit of consideration towards others.
Comparison and Contrast
The younger the children would have access to cellphones the more damage they would get in their social behavior. Both young and old, cellphone is very convenient in their lives, and more and more it is difficult to part them from the cellphones. Both Young children and adults would use the similar functions of the phones such as texts, phone calls, cameras, internets, and applications. The critical difference is that the adults have filter, and they would tend to know the difference between the virtual and the reality. Younger children having access to cellphones before they develop those qualities tend to be addictive to the phones and isolated from the society. Adults, when they use the texting device, they mainly try to communicate with colleagues about their meeting schedules, and contents of the work, something private and intimate they would prefer to talk face to face. Young children, they text everything from emotions, gossip, and reports every minor details of events whether or not they are important or emergent. Junk mails or texts are sent to every cellphones. Adults can distinguish and filter those texts and mails. On the other hand, young children driven by curiosity would open the junk mails, and get exposed to irrelevant information that can damage them.
An alternate option for cellphone maybe needed to preserve the mental health of young children.

The Advantages of Having Cell Phones
(Examples and Illustrations)
In today’s society technology has been advanced. Cell phones has being globally accepted has the main communication between family, friends, used in some businesses as the main course of financial income to sell products and used in modern society to do telephonic triaging for healthcare industry. Cell phones usages are used for preventive care in the healthcare system. Cell phones have become a part of our financial institutions.
Cell phones can be used to save lives. Patients that are with visiting nurse service can reach the nurses via cell phones. Patients can be telephonic triage. For example, if a patient is not feeling well and has a history of high blood pressure, with symptoms of headache, dizziness, and nausea, they can just call the hospital and speak with a live nurse directing him/her what to do and what to take that exact moment without rushing to the hospital. According to the author Christine Rosen from “Our cell phone, ourselves” stated that, “paramedics use camera phones to send ahead to hospitals pictures of the incoming injuries.” Cell phones have definitely impacted the healthcare field in a positive way and are used as preventative care measure.
(Description)
Cell phones have played a major part in the financial institution. Many people have chosen to do their businesses from home because they have their cell phones. Instead of going into the office people can now send their information via email. It is an easy and convenient way to receive and send information from one coworker to another. Cell phones has become so modernize, we can now check our financial status online. We can also view the stack market, and pay our bills on our cell phones. For example, I love the fact that I can download the app of my bank and view my balance on my cell phone. This is convenient for me because I don’t have to go on the computer which takes a while to start up and I definitely don’t have to go to the bank to view my account are make any changes to my account.
Surely, cellphone is a convenience to our society today. We can use it to save lives on a day to day basis. Cell phones have become so popular and easy. We can now use our cell phones do our businesses online and we can use it to work from home.
Compare/Contrast
DeleteAlthough some people may argue that cellphones have become a huge distraction, and has made society a bit rude, cellphones are actually very useful and beneficial in our modern age. Cellphones may be cause accidents, but help us be safe as well. For example, people might use them in the wrong way such as texting while driving, which has caused multiple accidents per year. Although there are cell phone users who harm there safety, there are many that use them when they are in trouble. For example, let’s say you are in danger, you might use your cell phone to call 911 or warn a loved one. A friend or family member might be in trouble and they may want to warn you, if you are away from home. Another thing that people may argue is how socially disconnected/connected cellphones can make our society. Many people say that cell phone have made us a bit rude and have taken away our face to face conversations. Which is such a contradiction because while we are disconnected with those in front of us, we are connected in many ways with others by text, e-mail, or social networks. We have many ways to be connected throughout our cell phones, but we can’t hold a simple conversation in person without our cellphones in our hands. Another controversy cell phone use has caused is our laziness. Cell phones may make us lazy in the sense that we don’t take our time to think of things, we just simply search our phones for the answer to everything. With today’s modern technology we use our cellphones for just about everything, they are very convenient, when you need the answer of something quickly, we even use them as a GPS. You can do pretty much about everything with cellphones; check bank statements, learn different languages, read books, search the web, anything you name it. Many people might be against it because of the harm it might cause, and the disrespect you might give someone when you have it, but I believe that all depends on you and how you choose to it.
Narration
Cellphones have become very convenient for me, and since they are so easy to use, I use my cell phone for almost about anything. I will say this though, my cell phone has helped me numerous of times with my schoolwork. I have emailed many teachers in the past whenever I needed to email a paper, or needed help with various assignments. I remember once in high school, my computer had broken down, and I needed to hand in an essay for my history class. Thankfully I had my iPhone, and I used it to search the web for background information, and then made an outline on a piece of paper. When I was finished with my research and my outline, I typed the essay on my phone and then e-mailed it to my teacher on time. It saved me a lot of time, by not having to go to the library (where they time your use on the computer), and I was still in the comfort of my own home. It was still they same resource as if I would’ve used the computer, except my phone was smaller. It goes to show how easy cell phones can make our lives, and how we can use them for just about anything; not just to fool around but we can use them for work, or school (like I did !) :D

Narration and Description
I remember siting in a doctor’s office with my mother a couple of weeks ago to check my allergies. It was very quiet while we waited in the waiting room. All of a sudden my mom gets a phone call. Her ringtone is the song “Wake Up Call” by Maroon 5; the melody blasts through the quiet office. People ignore it as my mom picks up the phone. I sat there listening to her conversation in Russian. She spoke loudly knowing no one around her understood what she was saying and she laughed loudly as well. I tried to tell her to quiet down feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable sitting next to her. She talked a bit lower but after a couple of minutes she was right back to the same loud volume as before. People should have the common courtesy to speak in a low volume when there are other people around them and especially if it’s in a secluded area. The free will of cell phone users has gone way out of hand. I for one always try to step out of the room or talk lower no matter whom I’m with. I wish people could see how annoying they can be when they don’t regard the people around them.
Cause and Effect
Individuals today seem to find it difficult to be without their phones. They become lost or frantic without them. People have become so attached to their phones that if anything happens to it, they seem to lose their minds. In the article “Our Cell Phones, Ourselves,” by Christine Rosen, Rosen states, “With technology comes addiction, and applicable neologisms have entered the lexicon-such as ‘“crackberry.” (3) She even agrees that people have been too attached to their phones, describing blackberry users as “crackberry.” It’s become ridiculous that because of our cell phones, we can’t remember a time before they existed, we can’t stand being apart from them even for a minute, and our lives are depended on them. Cell phones are a remarkable invention although; I believe they shouldn’t be depended on as much.
Comparison
ReplyDeleteDo phones provide freedom or do they restrict you in your freedom?
I remember vividly the times when I did not have a mobile phone.
I would go out and take care of things I need to take care of or simply go out with friends. I did not even think about other people trying to reach me, nowadays I check frequently my phone to see if there are any missed call or messages.
Everything used to need to wait until I am home and you either caught me in person or on my landline today people would be upset about waiting that long.
The way I look at it now I felt freer than I feel today.
Sounds paradox doesn’t it?
Example and Illustration
We talked a lot about phones or their owners as noisemakers and it seemed like the negative arguments weigh heavier than the positive ones, but there are advantages other than selfish ones.
Imagine for example you are driving at night on a dark, quiet and a bit creepy street. Suddenly you see a man laying in the street. It seems like there was an accident but there is no telling what exactly happened.
You are all by yourself and you don’t feel safe to get out of you car but on the other hand you want to help.
The solution is easy if you have a phone you just call for help without bringing yourself in danger.

Example & Narration
Cellphones have become a certain symbol of our society, their resourceful tools, and uses, are all duly noted and accepted thoroughly, but society, and individuals, would be notoriously insensitive not recognizing certain, viral, dangers we are capable of demonstrating over something as embedded into the, western, world, as a cellphone. I went to high school with a boy, who's name will go unmentioned. He was a normal boy who went to a, as politicians say, "less-fortunate", typical high school. We shared nothing in common, or interest, other then two classes. The boy was stabbed over his i-Phone 4 one day after-school, by a group of young men, and bled to death. A man(s) took a life over a 400 dollar device because someone was enjoying themselves on their cellphone. Clearly we are transitioning to something far greater then just a cellphone issue, but when such things, as a cellphone, are flamboyantly waved across-ed our psychological spectrum as a tool, a necessity, for living--we will have these, we will have to endure these disturbing, isolated incidents. Of course, these cellphones are packaged as the ultimate supplier, and feeder, to the narrower ten-dents, and sense, and this relief forces for certain behaviors. Behaviors which our society very well must notice, and correct.
Process & Description
Backed with an eternity of applications, features, and 100x improved core basics--the cellphone has become the modern day Zeus of daily technology, and a fixture in the modern, western, world. Becoming further and further detached from it's communicative, 1-0n-1 conversation, purpose--the cellphone, and it's excess, is disconnecting society with one another. Once the size of a "Harry Potter" series novel, (literally) the casing of the prototype device has shrank, and shrank, over the decades through technology. And the uses have blown up greater anyone could have originally anticipated over the decades as-well. Of course, the brunt of these revolutions are taking place in a society which has already been hammered by the radiation of television, and the internet. However, the cellphone plays the "King" and "Queen" on this board, as it combines all these different elements of self-indulgence--applications--in one convenient, handheld, casing. With this stated, and factually accepted, we understand that the cellphone takes away from what is hovering around you in the "here & now", because of all the lower distractions the phone, with all it's flames, provides. The phone at it's fundamentals is godly--the ability to have a conversation with anyone on the globe is technology which will never be outdated, but it's excess can leave to the devolving, emotionally and sensibly, of individuals.
Your "example and narration" bit was powerful stuff. It was a danger that had not been considered to that extent. Yikes!

TO BE OR NOT TO BE A ZOMBIE…
Description
The island of Manhattan are swarmed by them. They are
highly evolved beings with impaired senses. An immensely
beautiful, sunny sky no longer moves them. Each city step taken
is another input of ignorance. Ignorance has never been so
blissful. A stampede seems safer than this blind foot march
towards the daily mundane. In essence, Manhattan is overrun by
modern-day zombies. Cell phones have shut their ears from the
tweeting of birds. Cell phones have blinded them from a beautiful
sky. Cell phones have distracted these zombies from even catching
a whiff of good coffee. They are called the living dead for a
reason…and cell phone users have allowed this disconnect to happen
with the possession of the Almighty Cell Phone.
Narration
Cell phones have crept into the everyday lives of society…
whether a permission has been granted or not. The other day,
after a particularly stressful day, I found myself aggressively
running on a treadmill. The rhythmic sounds of my feet, as I was
running, formed its own lullaby of sorts. Not a sound could be
heard otherwise. Suddenly, a shrill ringtone broke out and was
the beginning of the end of established peace. A conversation
followed and I now felt myself worrying about the state of affairs
between this stranger and her clearly, struggling friendship with
the phantom friend on the phone. Although cell phones have this
amazing ability to cut one off from the rest of the world,it fails
to make one aware of one simple fact: the world is still there.
And this world is Still out there…bearing witness to even the most
private of details.

Cell phones, one of the greatest technological inventions of all time. They are such a small device with such a huge impact on this earth. Cell phones have helped save live and destroyed others. Many are skeptical on the good of “The Cell Phone” but it has many qualities that make it one of the highest used electrical devices in the world. I remember the Day I took my S.A.T.’s. I was extremely nervous wondering how will I do what will I need. I worried so much that I forgot to take my ID. I was able to call my sister and she brought an ID for me to enter. After the test I was heading home and decided to take the metro north. At the train station I purchased a ticket to Pelham. Not knowing much about this train I got the on the first train on the track. On the train I found out it was a nonstop express to Stanford. I panicked but luckily I had my phone and figured out what train to take to get back. A Cell phone helped me multiple times in one day imagine what it could do for anyone else.
(Compare/Contrast)
Cell phones have a positive in that 1) they can be used in an emergency; 2) They are great sources of entertainment, 3) Great way of communication, 4) Style and 5) A connection to huge sources of information. Cell Phones are negative in that 1) noise pollution, 2)A harmful source of radiation, 3) Arguably a weapon, 4)A connection to sources of information ( some info could be bad) and 5) A disconnection socially.

Description
In todays society having a cell phone has become what we can call a “Norm “. They have been accepted as the main source of communication amongst all people; family, friends and even coworkers. Cell Phones are one of technologies greatest advances. Being able to communicate with others outside of the comfort of your home is key in safety & the growth of communication. The basic use of cell phones are to be able to call and text but with 21st century inventions cellphones can assist you in virtually anything. From calendar organization to a voice controlled assistant. For Instance Apples I phone is the leading in cell phone competition, with 4 inch retna display, 8-megapixel camera and up to 225 hours of battery life in one charge they are dominating the cell phone business. Its competitor blackberry may have 4 G service but cant seem to beat I phones slender model.
Examples & Illustrations
We as a society have adapted to cellphones so quickly that we are not only using them for personal reason but also incorporating them into many serious situations. Christine Rosen tells us in her article “ Our Cell Phones, Ourselves” in Britain “ paramedics use camera phones to send pictures of the incoming injuries to hospitals “. This gives doctors a chance to think ahead and better access the situation when injured patients arrive. Cell phones have made life convenient and easier to manage. In Norway “1.5 million people can confirm their tax returns using text message” (Rosen, 2) and also in Slovakia “ people are using mobile phones to remotely switch on the heat before they return home” it may not be as serious as paying taxes or treating injuries but it is one of the many ways cellphones continue to positively affect us.

Example & Narration
The usage of cell phones has become a debatable topic all over the world. Some people would argue that the use of cell phones is a positive thing and others would argue that it is negative. In my opinion, I believe that the use of cell phones is a positive thing and it plays a major role in our everyday lives. For example, for someone who lives in a big city like NYC it is very easy to get lost, but with the built in navigation systems in cell phones he/she can easily find their way. That someone was me just a few months ago when I had to go to my summer youth worksite just a few months ago. I knew how to take the train there but once I got out of the train station I had no idea which way I had to go. Rather than roaming the streets which could have ended up taking a long time, I simply pulled out my phone, typed in the address, and let my cell phone direct me in the right direction.
Compare & Contrast
Cell phone usage is very helpful in different ways including communication, safety, entertainment, research, and getting work done for school/work/etc. Without a cell phone it would take longer to contact people. Instead of calling people when you have an urgent message, people will have to wait until the person gets home to give them the message which might take too long. People wouldn’t be able to call for help when in an emergency situation outside of their home and anything can happen to the person at that moment. Cell phones just make life much easier than life without them.

Cause & Effect
Our generation is speculated to be moving forward, intelligence wise, but how can we move forward, when these mobile devices are making our generation lazy? Cell-phones have brought up the issues of disconnecting from society, socially and the fact that we rely on these devices to get us by in our daily activities and routines. Cellphones are part of the reason for why many have problems with socializing. Which may not seem as a big issue, but it brings up questions such as why do some rather text than call? Why do people see it as a hassle to call someone, when they can just text them? It limits your vocabulary to mostly slang, sometimes there’s miscommunication between both parties, and we also, tend to feel neglected if nobody texts or call us within a day. There is no problem using your phone appropriately, but it becomes an issue, for example, whenever you want food all you have to do is make a phone call and place an order, whenever were bored we use our phone as a distraction or when we need to do a research paper, we go straight to the computer rather than a reliable source such as the library, where they have books and factual information. We depend too much on our phones, to the point where we forget about our own personal needs and responsibilities. Cellphones have made a negative impact on our society, by making us lazy and giving us a sense of false intelligence. As well, as making us dissocialized by relying on our phones to connect with the world, rather than ourselves having face to face contact with another human being and not through a screen.
Cellphones are seen everywhere you go, and have become high in demand especially the “Smart Phones” but, it has had an effect on their users to become addicted to their phones. While being addicted to your phone, you should know it can cause Safety and Privacy issues. In the following cases, you will see the harm it can cause on the individual. In the article “Our Cellphones, Ourselves” they research the issue of texting while driving and have come up with a statistic resulting in “54 percent of drivers, actively using cellphones at any one time on the road.” (3) Now, you can see how this can harm not only yourself but, the innocent lives that surround you on the road. You become unaware of your surroundings and tend to pay less attention to those in your path. For example, whether it’s someone opening the door for you, and not saying “Thank you!” or bumping into someone while getting off the train because your too focused on the electronic device that lies in front of you. In addition to Safety Issues, the matter of anxiety and depression can be contracted. When you’re addicted to your phone, you feel the need to always answer everyone’s text, Facebook or Instagram post. Sometimes we stay anticipating for someone to write back and when they don’t, you start to become depressed. While cellphones are addicting, there’s a price we pay, and that is our Privacy. The more you put on Facebook/Instagram, to know about you and when you tag your location in the posts, your allowing people into your business. Once, it’s out there, there’s no way of getting it back. And the reason for saying this is because whenever there is a cellphone in your grasp, there always a tendency to interact with these social apps. Cellphones have a major impact on us, the more addicted you are to your phone, the more cautious you should be about the Safety and Privacy issues that come along with it.

I am truly a supporter for the use of cell phones because it allows the average person to become a modern day superman. I believe technology is helping the advancement of the human race by leaps and bounds. The late great president Abraham Lincoln once said about an adversary of his that had “dived down deeper into the sea of knowledge and come up drier than any other man he knew”. That’s how I feel about people who are trying to keep up with information without the use of a cell phone/ smart phone. Two of the main reasons people say that they use cell phones are because of the safety factor and the ability to stay organized. First when it comes to safety parents want their kids to have a cell phone in order to be able to contact them at any given moment. Long gone are the days when parents would stand by the door or window looking down the street waiting for their kids to arrive home safely. Now with the introduction of the cell phone comes many different applications. As the saying goes “there’s an app for that”. Meaning what ever you want to do thanks to new technologies in the form of applications you now have the help and assistance to get the job done. For example, now cell phones can be tracked and viewed from another device giving the parents the ability to know where their kids are at all times.
There’s a saying in education as well as the business forum that goes “documentation beats conversation any day”, and I’m in full agreement with that statement. Also when it comes to organization, cell phones have now taken the place of a personal assistant in order to able the user. This is another reason why I am a pro cell phone person. They allow the user to better or enhance their lives through time management. When it comes down to scheduling events and other task, as well as money management. Especially when dealing with on-line banking and reminders that pop up when its time to pay a bill. Smart phones have taken communication to a higher level by encoding emails and other documents ensuring privacy. Turning a stressful moment that was normally very time consuming into a simple press of a button. Allowing the user to be more structured when completing goals and tasks empowering their actions all in record time. From a school kid all the way to a CEO of a business a cell phone can put you light years ahead of the competition.

Description
Cell phones are becoming more and more advanced as the years progress. Many have argued about whether or not smart phones are good or bad for society. I personally think that, yes, there are some consequences of having a cell phone but what it does for us is way more important. The good out weights the bad. It is like for instances, when a girl(lets call her Sam) buys a new pair of stilettos, Sam knows that it will hurt her feet when she wears it, but, she doesn’t care because they are so beautiful and they will compliment her outfit so well. Sam will also keep on buying and wearing stilettos for the rest of her life, ignoring the pain. There is a saying “beauty comes at a price” and that is exactly how I look at cell phones. Convenience comes at a price, we want easy access to the internet, and fast way to communicate with friends and family, something to organize our life but with that comes, losing touch with society, losing respect for ourselves and others and the possibility of developing cancer. It does not the stop the majority of society from buying Smart Phones. Even the ones that say it is such an atrocious thing, they have a smart phone.
Examples and illustration.
It is amazing what you do with a cell phone. The ability to surf the internet in seconds to find the answer to any question. Being able to call and text your love ones no matter where in the world they are. So many apps, for so many purposes. Organization, entertainment, security and so many others thing. Now you can also swipe your credit card using your smart phones. Technologies just keep advancing. Communication I think is the most important use of a cell phone. For example; Christine Rosen wrote an article called “Our cell Phones, ourselves” in the article she states how on the September 11 terrorist attack, many used their cell phones. “On that day, many men and women used their cell phones to speak their finale words to family and loved ones” (Rosen 2). Without the availability of cell phones, many would not have gotten the opportunity to say goodbye. I know that society is changing with all these technologies, especially cell phones; we just have to learn how to adapt to the changes. At the end of the day, ignoring the consequences, we all need and must have a cell phone.

Cell phones are controversially, the most useful technological device available at recent days. I know many people will disagree with me since this device comes with its side effects just as every problem comes with its solutions. The level of convenience in everyday activity has been increased immeasurably by cell phones access to everyone whenever and almost wherever needed. As kids we dint have cell phones so when our parents were out late at night we did have some phobia that they left us forever for being naughty unlike kids this days who keeps calling their parents every five minutes for being ten minutes late to return home. Both the parents and kids are assured of the safety of their loved ones. This is just one of the many uses of the wonder device. Other major uses like net surfing, maps, all sorts of entertainments that device provide has made it the inseparable part of the twenty first century civilians. And though this device comes with its cons too I think the pros are way more comparatively and the scope of overcoming the cons are on its way too.

Example
Cell phones are very essential and everyone should have one for the right reasons. These reasons are convenience and safety. The most important one being convenience. (Rosen 2) For instance, let’s say you are in need for a new apartment and you’re walking down the streets and immediately you see a sign for a one-bedroom apartment for sale. It’s just the location you were looking for! The price is extremely reasonable and the sign was posted about two days ago-meaning there hasn’t been a buyer. Being that you have a cell phone, you have direct access to call the seller before any other interested buyers get to call. “Today, more people have cell phones than fixed telephone lines, both in the United States and internationally.” (1) Cell phones turn out way more suitable for those who are constantly on the go, rather than home phones, which only function when you are at home and within several feet outside your house.
Narration
Since it is my first year attending college, I really wouldn’t know the niches and glitches’ about how to get around and what to do during the first week of school as far as the textbook buying goes. As I walk down the hallways of York College I notice many printed post of students selling used textbook. I also notice that the books I need are posted and are being sold fairly cheap compared to online websites and the school’s bookstore. The only problem is that I currently did not have a phone at the time and the only way I can reach these sellers is by phone! “Ever heard of email?” These were the moments I realized how dependable cell phones have become. Every single post I looked at only provided a telephone number, no email address. So I figured just to jot down the numbers of these sellers and hope that these specific books in which I need for my classes were still for sale. Five hours later I arrive home, grab my house phone and dial the numbers of each book seller that was selling the book I was desperately in need for. Come to find out, every single one of these seller had potential buyers that all called within hours of the post-meaning, way before I called! Disappointedly, I headed towards the computer, grabbed my debit card and made pretty expensive purchases for books I could have saved a whole lot of money on, if I only had a cell phone. If such a minuscule incident happened to me for not having a cell phone, what is there to say about a much bigger occurrence that can happen to someone else without a cell phone? A mobile phone is very important for anyone’s everyday life, according to Rosen, “sometime between 2010 and 2020, everyone who wants and can afford a cell phone will have one.” (1) The only question left to ask is, do you have a cell phone?

(Rosen, 2) Convenience is one of the most blissful things anyone can think about. The fact that people now-a-days use cell phones to receive new information on news, friends/family, or just simple research it's because the knowledge is literally in the palm of their hands. Can convenience make someone become apathetic? It is possible. Now, the only reason why majority of people have smart phones is simply because they probably have been inconvenient to others in order to give or receive information about them. "Cell phones offer people a heretofore unknown level of convenience." (Rosen, 2)
Examples and Illustration
The only reason why smart phones are so popular is because they are so convenient for people to use. For example, when you are curious about a new subject, you don't have to go to the library anymore to look up a book and read it, that would cause you to waste some sort of valuable energy, you could just search it up on a search engine. Google has been used so much that it's becoming an actually verb in the present and past tense. Another example, is that now there are new applications that mother's could use in order to figure out where their children are. It shows that if they ever have some sort of anxiety of their child's safety, they can just locate them through their phone and suddenly, the anxiousness has been relieved, no need for you to take that Xanax. Convenience is always a good thing but, it might bring some sort of negativity by causing people to become apathetic because, people are becoming more and more dependent on these new devices everyday.

Some people would argue that cell phones are one of the most important electronics devices on the planet, and I would say I have to agree. Cell phones are something most people just can’t live or even be without for a minute. For example, my mom asked my sister to go to the grocery store for her, even though it’s across the street she still took her phone with her. She said she probably can miss an important phone call within the couple of minute she’s away from her phone. Couple of minutes later while at the grocery store she uses her cellphone calls my mom because she forgot what she was supposed to buy. I guess her taking her cell phone was important after all.
Comparing & Contrast
Having a cellphone is really useful and makes life a little more easier. But not having a cell phone is okay I guess. I mean you can still use your house phone to get in contact with your family or friends, but what would life be without cellphones? Well for one we would have to stay home and wait for that important phone call even though you have other things to do outside as opposed to going to handle your other business while answering the phone call at the same time.

Cell phones just make life much easier and it is also very entertaining. Therefore it is all up to the user to use it in a careful and safe environment.
